Authentication

AuthN

Authentication is the process of verifying the identity of a user, system, or device — confirming they are who they claim to be before granting access.

⚙️ How Does It Work?

Through factors the user knows (password), has (token, phone), or is (biometrics). Multi-factor authentication combines two or more of these.

📍 Where Is It Used?

Every digital system — websites, enterprise apps, VPNs, operating systems, APIs.

💡 Real-World Example

An employee logs in to the corporate VPN by entering her password and approving a push notification on her phone. Both factors verified means authenticated.
